swimming in relief

I put the pedal to the medal. I’m barefoot, my arms spread out away from the wheel and I close my eyes. After ten seconds they open and I’m still in the lane. I let the spirits guide me. I let my brain make choices for me as long as he checks in with my heart first, on occasion they’ll have meetings with the gut. I stick to the path, I flow with my river.

I am a fire surrounded by people and I’m here to warm you. I look into big beautiful eyes and I become frozen solid; I forget English; no entiendo, non capisce, jsais pas.. My words get scrambled and I sound like a doofus but it gets you to smile which gets me to smile. Give me your hand and I’ll walk you home.

I believe in good things. Bad is necessary in order to know good. You learn to appreciate it. Life is good right now and it makes me think when the bad will happen. Maybe I’ll lose my lips and I’ll never be able to kiss with them again. Maybe I’ll dream about waking up and getting ready for work but when I leave my house I wake up for real and I’m late for work. Maybe the next time I close my eyes on the road there’s an issue with the steering and the car drifts a bit to the right hitting a telephone pole, splitting the car down the middle and the passenger side slides off to the right like some sort of cartoon; when my eyes are open im in a hospital bed and my right arm is broken; my pinky toe is also broken. Even then..

At least I’m still breathing;

At least I’m still a fire;

At least I got some rest;

At least I can still hug;

At least I can still look at you;

At least we had some time;

At least I’ll always find something to appreciate.

Give me your hand.

Walk me home. I’ll carry you.
